Waiting for the Maple Tree to Bloom follows the stories of four pediatric cancer patients and their journey through diagnosis and treatment. Using colorful images, voice-overs, and a narrative storyline, this children’s book was created to introduce information regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer. Like more classic children’s books, it is meant to provide a stabilizing force during an otherwise overwhelming time. Concurrently, a narrative following the diagnosis and treatment of other pediatric patients opens up a space for parents to talk to their children, creates a sense of community, and can act as an arsenal of explanatory images for physicians.
